The Eryri 360 ride in June 2023 was very successful, thanks to Gary Owen’s organisation and enthusiasm, with 12 riders completing the trip and raising some £12,000 for the Welsh Air Ambulance charity. It was a testing challenge for all the riders, and thanks also go to the other helpers, especially the spouses and partners who ferried luggage from hotel to hotel.
It was followed up by a revisit later in the year supported by 16 riders on a one-day route from Betws-y-Coed
This is a self-supported charity event in aid of the Welsh Air Ambulance covering around 360 miles throughout Eryri over 4 days for Club members. It starts on Friday 23rd June 2023. For more details, please speak to Gary Owen who has been organising the challenge.
It is hoped that those doing the ride will obtain sponsorship for the charity – a JustGiving page will be set up later.
The route (as in the poster) will be broken into 4 parts and each day will have a detailed route finalised nearer the time
Day 1 Rhuthun to Porthmadog 101 miles [Travelodge]
Day 2 Porthmadog to Caergybi[Holyhead] via Aberdaron 111 miles Gogarth Dormitories [Anglesey Outdoors]
Day 3 Caergybi to llandudno 79 miles [Morwena Holiday Apts.]
Day 4 Llandudno to Rhuthun 70 miles
These mileages are tailored to our accommodation but members who want to take part can tailor their own requirements and stop offs, so possibly caravans, hostels, tents, or cycle through the night, or sleep in a hedge even! …freedom to ride! Your own responsibility! You decide.
However, it is hoped that groups will be able to socialise in the evenings where they have stopped at the same location.
Self-supported – means…
The event is a challenge, an endurance event and organised at a time of year that has longest daylight hours. It is not a race. It is not an Audax and outside help is permitted.
There is no entry fee. Accommodation, food etc costs are the responsibility of each participant.
Start time is up to individuals as is the time out on the road and coffee stops, but groups may set off together.
Each rider will be responsible for their own route navigation and bike maintenance.
We may well ride in small groups, and its important that any one individual is not left behind, unless he or she requests to ride solo. We will discuss groupings for similar abilities and organise accordingly nearer the time
There will be opportunities to regroup at pit stops, and there will be no restrictions on anyone’s pit stop time, as recovery for every rider is personal: hence the need for own map navigation.
A backup plan for Bike and Rider recovery in case of breakdown is advisable for every participant . There is no organised “broom wagon” or support van, though individuals may organise their own.
All of the above can be debated and agreed before the event .
